Nigeria’s Leadership Crisis: Emir Sanusi Speaks Out

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi, has lamented that Nigeria’s political elite have turned public office into a private enterprise, undermining the country’s progress. Speaking at the 15th anniversary event of Enough is Enough Nigeria in Lagos, Sanusi criticized the political class for prioritizing personal interests over national duty .

Sanusi described the current system as dysfunctional, characterized by ethnic rivalries, religious conflicts, and competition for personal aggrandizement. He urged young Nigerians to reject this system and commit to building a nation that reflects its actual promise .

The Emir called on Nigerian youths to unite across social, ethnic, and religious divides to outline a coherent, attainable ideology for the country’s future. He emphasized that the nation belongs to its citizens, not the government or politicians, and that each individual has a duty to contribute to the country’s growth and development.

Sanusi envisioned a Nigeria that is different from the one manufactured by the current leadership. A Nigeria that realizes its potential and takes its rightful place in the committee of nations. He urged Nigerians to come together and articulate a clear and achievable ideological position, a vision for what kind of Nigeria they want to have .

The Emir emphasized that citizens have the power to shape the country’s future.
