Nigeria’s Fuel Consumption Drops to 1.44 Billion Liters in June 2025
The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has reported a significant decline in fuel consumption for June 2025, with total fuel evacuation falling to 1.44 billion liters. This represents a 16.42% decrease from May’s total supply of 1.768 billion liters, a drop of over 290 million liters. Consumption:Averaged 48 million liters, correcting earlier reports that put the figure at 38.94 million liters.
Top Fuel-Consuming States:
Lagos: 205.66 million liters
Ogun:88.69 million liters. Federal Capital Territory:77.51 million liters
Oyo: 72.81 million liters
Diesel Supply:Rose by 1.73% to 432.18 million liters
Diesel Distribution:Dropped sharply by 23.23% to 424.06 million liters
Household Kerosene:Supply and distribution both fell by 13% to 7.79 million liters
Automotive Gasoline:Plunged by nearly 48% to 37.66 million liters
The NMDPRA noted that the decline in overall supply and distribution suggests continued challenges in the petroleum midstream and downstream sectors, impacting national fuel consumption patterns in June. The authority has pledged to work closely with relevant stakeholders to strengthen distribution and guarantee uninterrupted supply of petroleum products nationwide .
The drop in fuel consumption highlights the need for sustained efforts to improve the efficiency and reliability of Nigeria’s fuel supply chain. By addressing the challenges in the petroleum midstream and downstream sectors, the country can work towards ensuring a stable and consistent supply of fuel to meet the needs of its citizens.
