Nigerians Want Results, Not Just Figures: Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Weighs in on ₦58.18trn Budget
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has urged President Bola Tinubu to ensure that the proposed ₦58.18 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill translates into tangible benefits for ordinary Nigerians. According to her, Nigerians are more concerned with the impact of government spending on their daily lives than the size of the budget .

Akpoti-Uduaghan emphasized that fiscal size alone cannot resolve Nigeria’s development challenges. She stressed that citizens expect budgets to deliver improved living standards through sustainable job creation, functional infrastructure, affordable healthcare, quality education, and accessible social services .
The senator highlighted the importance of accountability in governance, stating that leaders must do better, and citizens must demand accountability. She emphasized that public scrutiny is essential to achieving meaningful outcomes .
Akpoti-Uduaghan’s remarks echo wider concerns that Nigeria’s annual budgets, though expanding in size, have yet to deliver commensurate improvements in welfare, productivity, and social stability. As the government moves forward with its budget implementation, it remains to be seen whether the proposed spending plan will translate into tangible benefits for Nigerians .
