Nigerian Cleric Seeks International Intervention Over Alleged Genocide
Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo, a prominent Nigerian cleric, has vowed to take the Nigerian government to the International Criminal Court (ICC) over alleged genocide in the country’s northern region. Dachomo expressed unwavering support for US President Donald Trump’s potential intervention, citing the Nigerian government’s alleged complicity in the killings.
Dachomo accused the government of recruiting repentant Boko Haram members into the military and police, claiming this has emboldened attackers. He cited specific incidents, including the 2010 Dogo Nahawa attack, where over 500 people were killed, and a recent incident in Jaruwa, where worshippers were burned alive during a church service.
The cleric has begun documenting cases of alleged Christian genocide, visiting grave sites and gathering testimonies. He plans to compile a report and present it to the ICC and the US government to prove that genocide is happening in Nigeria. Dachomo has already received over ₦7 million in donations to support his efforts .
The Nigerian government and the Christian Association of Nigeria have denied allegations of genocide. However, Dachomo remains resolute, saying, “The world needs to know that what we are saying is not false. I will go to any length to prove that this government is lying.”
The outcome of Dachomo’s efforts to involve the ICC remains uncertain. Will the international community take notice, or will the Nigerian government continue to deny allegations of genocide?
