Nigeria-Ghana Relations: Addressing Anti-Nigerian Protests

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Ojukwu, has met with Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Ablakwa, to discuss the recent wave of anti-Nigerian protests in Ghana. The protests, which were captured in a viral video, showed demonstrators calling for the expulsion of Nigerians over alleged misconduct.

During the meeting, Ojukwu and Ablakwa discussed concerns arising from the demonstrations, where some Ghanaian citizens accused Nigerians of contributing to rising crime levels. The Ghanaian Minister assured Ojukwu that the lives, properties, and businesses of Nigerians living in Ghana are also safe and protected. There is no threat of mass deportations of Nigerian nationals residing in Ghana.

The diplomatic efforts between Nigeria and Ghana aim to resolve the tensions and ensure the safety and well-being of Nigerians living in Ghana. The assurance from the Ghanaian Minister is a positive step towards de-escalating the situation and promoting peaceful coexistence between the two nations.
