Nigeria Clinches Bronze at 2025 Hockey AFCON

The Nigerian men’s hockey team has secured a bronze medal at the 2025 Hockey Africa Cup of Nations, held in Ismailia, Egypt. The team defeated Kenya 3-1 in the third-place playoff, capping a strong finish in the continental championship.

Nigeria took the lead in the 16th minute through Solomon Dennis’ well-taken field goal. However, Kenya equalized eight minutes later when Usagi Sutcliffe converted a field goal. The Nigerians regained control in the second half, with Samaila James scoring two penalty corners to seal a 3-1 victory.

James was instrumental in Nigeria’s success, scoring eight goals in the tournament to emerge as the top scorer. His impressive performance earned him recognition as one of the standout players of the tournament .

Although the Nigerian women’s team narrowly lost 1-0 to Kenya in their third-place playoff, the men’s bronze medal win is a significant achievement for Nigerian hockey. The victory marks a major boost for the sport’s growth in the country .
