Nigeria and UK Strengthen Ties with New Agreements on Deportations and Crime Cooperation

Nigeria and the United Kingdom have signed new agreements on deportations, visa processes, and financial crime cooperation. The agreements were reached at the 2025 Migration, Justice, and Home Affairs Dialogue in Abuja.

 

Both countries have reaffirmed their commitment to returning individuals without legal status in each other’s territories.
The UK will update Nigerian agencies on its e-visa rollout, while Nigeria will share its progress on its own e-visa initiative.
A new Memorandum of Understanding on Organised Immigration Crime is expected soon, aiming to improve border and migration management capacity.
The UK will expand training for Nigeria’s immigration officers to enhance responsiveness.

The agreements demonstrate the commitment of both countries to strengthen their partnership in areas such as migration, justice, and home affairs. The UK has also pledged to support Nigerian business travelers and update Nigerian stakeholders on its e-visa rollout.

The new agreements mark a significant step forward in the cooperation between Nigeria and the UK. Both countries will continue to work together to address common challenges and promote mutual interests .
