Niger State Police Arrest IBBU Student Over Alleged Cybercrimes

The Niger State Police Command has arrested Abubakar Isah Mokwa, a 29-year-old postgraduate student at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBUL), over alleged cybercrimes. Mokwa, known online as “Sen Isah Mokwa,” was apprehended at his residence in Lapai on Thursday night.

The police claim that Mokwa’s arrest was in response to a complaint filed by Governor Umaru Bago. The allegations against Mokwa include cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and other cybercrimes. The police say that Mokwa’s online activities, including his use of the nickname “Governor Amunike” to criticize the governor’s administration, were part of a campaign to ridicule the governor.

Mokwa’s arrest has sparked widespread outrage among activists and citizens, who describe it as a politically motivated attempt to silence dissent. Many have taken to social media to express their concerns about the government’s alleged attempts to suppress free speech.

The police have confirmed that Mokwa is currently in custody and that further updates will be made public in due course. As the investigation unfolds, it remains to be seen whether the authorities will handle the case with transparency and fairness .
