New NYSC Policy: FG Mandates Thesis Submission for Mobilization

The Federal Government has introduced a new policy requiring graduates to submit their theses and final year projects to the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD) as a compulsory requirement for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilization. This policy, effective from October 6, aims to enhance the quality of academic outputs and ensure authenticity.

All graduates, whether trained in Nigeria or abroad, must submit their academic outputs to the NERD database.
The policy serves as a quality assurance check, verifying the authenticity and academic integrity of students’ work.
The database will capture every detail of academic work deposited, including the names of students, supervisors, and institutions.

The policy is expected to raise the bar in the quality of academic content, output, and presentation nationwide.
Lecturers will be more diligent in supervising students, knowing that their names will be associated with the academic works on a globally available digital platform.
The policy also includes a mechanism to reward students and lecturers for their academic outputs.

The policy has been endorsed by President Bola Tinubu, and the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has emphasized that submission of academic outputs will become obligatory. This development is expected to enhance the credibility and quality of Nigerian graduates, making them more competitive in the global job market.

By making thesis submission a requirement for NYSC mobilization, the Federal Government aims to promote academic excellence and ensure that Nigerian graduates meet international standards.
