Ndidi Cleared to Play Against DR Congo: A Boost for the Super Eagles

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that Super League midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is eligible to face the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in Sunday’s African playoff match for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This development has brought a sigh of relief to Nigerian football fans, who were worried that Ndidi would miss the crucial game due to suspension.

According to the Super Eagles’ official X handle, CAF has stated that cautions accumulated during the World Cup qualifiers do not carry over into the playoffs. This means that Ndidi, who wore the captain’s armband in the semi-final victory over Gabon, is free to play in the upcoming match.

Ndidi’s eligibility is a significant boost for the Super Eagles, who will be looking to secure a spot in the intercontinental playoff for a place at the 2026 World Cup. The Leicester City star has been in excellent form, providing a crucial assist in Nigeria’s 4-1 win over Gabon. With Ndidi cleared to play, Nigeria will face DR Congo on Sunday at 8 p.m. Nigerian time, in a match that will determine Africa’s representative in the intercontinental playoff. The stage is set for an exciting showdown between two of Africa’s top teams.
