Military Plane Crash in Georgia Claims 20 Lives
A devastating plane crash in eastern Georgia has resulted in the deaths of all 20 people on board a Turkish military cargo plane. The C-130 Hercules aircraft, which was en route from Azerbaijan to Turkey, went down near the Georgia-Azerbaijan border on Tuesday, November 11.
Footage captured moments before the crash showed the plane spiraling down with a trail of white smoke before bursting into flames upon impact. The pilots did not send any distress signals before the crash, and the plane disappeared from radar shortly after taking off from the city of Ganja in Azerbaijan.
The Turkish Defence Ministry confirmed the fatalities, and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expressed grief over the tragedy. An investigation has been launched into the cause of the crash, which has become Turkey’s deadliest military incident since 2020. The US ambassador to Turkey and NATO Secretary General have offered condolences, and the US defence firm Lockheed Martin has pledged to assist with the investigation.
The C-130 Hercules is a widely used military transport plane, and the crashed aircraft was reportedly a 57-year-old model previously used by the Royal Saudi Air Force.
The incident has sparked an outpouring of condolences from around the world, with leaders and officials expressing their grief and support for the families of the victims. As the investigation into the crash continues, the world waits with bated breath for answers.
