Medical Doctor Sentenced to 7 Years in Prison for N127 Million Fraud In Calabar Cross River State

In a shocking turn of events, a medical doctor, Geraldine Orok Ita, has been sentenced to 7 years in prison for her involvement in a N127 million fraud scheme. The sentence was handed down by a Federal High Court in Calabar, Cross River State.

According to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Dr. Ita was found guilty of forgery, diversion of funds, and money laundering. The trial, which began in 2019, revealed that Dr. Ita had forged documents to gain control of two companies, Sharpnet Concept Limited and ROK Projects Limited.

The EFCC alleged that Dr. Ita used her position to divert N127 million from the companies’ accounts, which was meant for a project executed by the companies for the University of Calabar. The court found her guilty of knowingly receiving N45 million proceeds of crime through the bank account of ROK Projects Limited.

The sentence is a significant blow to Dr. Ita’s reputation and career. The court’s decision sends a strong message that corruption and fraud will not be tolerated in Nigeria.
