A former Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar, Prof. Cyril Ndifon, has been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment for sexually harassing his female student. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) attributed the conviction to the courage of the victim, who gave consistent and credible testimony throughout the trial
The ICPC had charged Ndifon with four counts, including inducing a student to send nude photographs and corruptly using his office to obtain sexual benefits. The court found him guilty on two counts and sentenced him to five years’ imprisonment
The ICPC spokesperson, John Odey, said the verdict demonstrates that survivors who come forward can receive justice. He commended the victim’s bravery, saying she is a “shining example for all those who are being sexually harassed to come out to report their oppressors”

The commission has assured survivors of sexual harassment, extortion, or abuse of office that they can come forward and receive protection and prosecution
