Lagos State Government Reveals Alarming HIV Statistics: 160,000 Residents Living with the Virus

The Lagos State Government has disclosed that approximately 160,000 residents are currently living with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). This figure was revealed during the Lagos State AIDS Control Agency’s (LSACA) World AIDS Day 2025 press briefing

Estimated Number of People Living with HIV: 160,000 residents in Lagos State are living with HIV, with 147,466 persons currently on antiretroviral treatment.
Impact of US Government’s Stop Work Order: The US Government’s decision to terminate its agreement with the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS significantly slowed testing and counseling activities, limiting access to essential interventions.
HIV Testing Output: The state conducted 222,415 HIV tests during the reporting period, representing only 28.9% of last year’s testing output
