JAMB Flags 2,658 Admissions as Illegal in 17 Institutions

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has identified 2,658 admissions as illegal in the 2024/2025 academic session. These admissions were made outside the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), which is the approved platform for admissions in Nigeria.

According to JAMB’s analysis, 17 universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education were involved in the illegal admissions. Some of the affected institutions include:

– Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (1,847)
– Osun State University (492)
– Abubakar Tafari Ali Polytechnic (148)
– Federal College of Animal and Health Production (66)
– University of Calabar (28)

JAMB has been warning institutions and candidates about the dangers of conducting admissions outside CAPS. The board has emphasized that severe sanctions, including withdrawal of assets and punishment of officials, will be meted out to institutions involved in illegal admission racketeering.

The illegal admissions have serious implications for the affected students and institutions. Students who are admitted outside CAPS may not be recognized by other institutions or employers, which can lead to serious consequences for their academic and professional careers.

JAMB’s action is a step towards ensuring that admissions are conducted transparently and in accordance with the rules. Institutions must comply with JAMB’s directives to avoid sanctions. Students are also advised to verify the authenticity of their admissions to avoid any consequences.
