Italian PM Giorgia Meloni Jokes About Smoking, Says Quitting Might Make Her “Kill Someone”

In a lighthearted exchange at the Gaza summit in Egypt, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni joked that quitting cigarettes might lead her to commit murder. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, known for his anti-smoking campaign, playfully advised Meloni to stop smoking, saying, “You look great, but I have to make you stop smoking.” French President Emmanuel Macron chimed in, “It’s impossible,” prompting Meloni to quip, “I know, I know. I don’t want to kill someone.”

The conversation took place during a high-level summit where world leaders gathered to discuss pressing global issues. Despite the seriousness of the occasion, Meloni’s witty response had everyone in stitches. Her comment highlights her ability to think on her feet and poke fun at herself.

Meloni had previously revealed that she had started smoking again after quitting 13 years ago. In her book, “La versione di Giorgia,” she mentioned that smoking helped her connect with fellow leaders, including Tunisian President Kais Saied.

During the same summit, US President Donald Trump praised Meloni, calling her a “beautiful young woman.” He jokingly noted that using the word “beautiful” in the US could end his political career but said he was willing to take the risk. Meloni’s relationship with Trump appears to be cordial, with the two leaders sharing similar views on various issues.

Giorgia Meloni’s humorous response to Erdoğan’s comment has gone viral, showcasing her ability to navigate complex diplomatic situations with ease and humor. As the first female Prime Minister of Italy, Meloni continues to make headlines with her leadership style and wit.
