IPOB Cancels Monday Sit-at-Home in South-East
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced the total and permanent cancellation of the Monday sit-at-home across the South-East region of Nigeria. The directive, which takes effect from Monday, February 9, 2026, was made by IPOB’s leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, according to the group’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful .

IPOB stated that the decision to cancel the sit-at-home was made to ensure that normal life returns to the South-East and to allow people to go about their lawful businesses without fear or intimidation. The group emphasized that there is no need for anyone to stay at home on Mondays and directed that all markets, schools, offices, transport services, and economic activities must resume fully and normally.
IPOB warned that any individual or group attempting to enforce sit-at-home going forward will be acting against Kanu’s direct command and will be pursued and confronted. The group also cautioned against false-flag operations designed to create fear or intimidate people into staying indoors .
IPOB urged residents of the South-East to remain vigilant, calm, and law-abiding, and to resume normal activities. The group also called on state governments to refrain from taking action against traders who may choose to stay at home, warning that any attempt to intimidate or demolish businesses will be firmly resisted .
The cancellation of the Monday sit-at-home is expected to bring relief to residents and businesses in the South-East, who have been affected by the prolonged industrial action. The development also highlights the importance of dialogue and peaceful resolution of conflicts .
