Haaland Scores Hat-Trick as Norway Thrash Israel 5-0 in World Cup Qualifier

Erling Haaland made history with a hat-trick, becoming the fastest player in men’s international football to reach 50 goals for his country. Norway dominated Israel 5-0 in their 2026 World Cup qualifier, moving closer to securing a spot in the tournament.

Haaland’s impressive performance included two headers in the second half, taking his tally to 51 goals in just 46 games for Norway. Alexander Sorloth and Antonio Nusa also played key roles, with Sorloth providing a crucial pass and Nusa delivering crosses that led to two of Norway’s goals. Israel’s defense struggled, conceding two own goals in the first half.

This win puts Norway at the top of Group I, nine points ahead of second-placed Italy, who have two games in hand. Norway is on the brink of qualifying for the World Cup for the first time since 1998. A win against Estonia on November 13 would almost certainly secure their spot.

The match was marked by pro-Palestinian demonstrations outside the stadium, with hundreds chanting “Free Palestine” to protest Israel’s actions in Gaza. The head of the Norwegian football association has been vocal about sanctioning Israel.

Haaland’s achievement surpasses the previous record held by England’s Harry Kane, who reached 50 goals in 71 appearances. With 21 goals in 12 games for club and country this season, Haaland is on track to shatter multiple records .
