Governor Otu and Dignitaries Honor the Late Commissioner for Tourism

On Saturday, Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, led a group of dignitaries in paying tribute to the late Abubakar Robert Ewa, who was interred in his hometown of Boki.

Represented by his Deputy, Governor Otu expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Hon. (Chief) Abubakar Robert Ewa, who served as the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture. He described the loss as significant not only for the state but for the broader community. The Governor praised Ewa’s unwavering commitment to public service and recognized him as a prominent figure in politics and a dedicated advocate for the people.

Governor Otu reflected on Ewa’s influential role, stating, “Abubakar was more than just a politician; he was a central figure in Boki politics, devoted to serving the community. His legacy in tourism, arts, and culture will remain for years to come.”

Deputy Governor Peter Odey, also speaking at the memorial, echoed these sentiments, highlighting Ewa’s contributions to governance and community development. He emphasized the collective mourning felt within the administration and the wider Cross River State for the late commissioner, noting Ewa’s efforts as Chairman of Boki Local Government, where he sought to improve the lives of his constituents.

Senator Eteng Williams, representing Cross River Central district, paid his respects as well, calling Ewa’s death a significant loss. He recalled Ewa’s journey from a councilor to a respected leader, a testament to his dedication and patriotism.

Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, noted that Ewa’s death while still actively serving highlighted his commitment to the state. He acknowledged the impact of Ewa’s life, stating, “Though we grieve his loss, we can take comfort in the knowledge that he led a life filled with purpose. His legacy will inspire future generations.”

Hon. Emmanuel Ironbar, Chief of Staff to the Governor, called on others to draw inspiration from Ewa’s steadfast dedication. Similarly, Chief Victor Felix Idem, Chairman of the College of Commissioners, expressed sorrow over the gap left in the State Executive Council, recognizing Ewa not only as a colleague but as a mentor with strong principles.

The numerous tributes delivered at the memorial highlighted the high esteem in which Hon. Abubakar Robert Ewa was held, affirming his enduring influence within Cross River State.

Among other notable attendees paying their respects were Hon. Justice Akon Ikpeme, Chief Judge of Cross River State; Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, Chairman of the Senate Committee on NDDC; Hon. Victor Abang, Member representing Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency; and Prof. Owan Enoh, Secretary to the State Government.
