Gara-Gombe Slams NFF Over Chelle’s $130k Salary Demand: “Nigeria Will Regret It”

A former Gombe State Football Association chairman has blasted the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for considering a salary hike for Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle. Chelle wants a whopping $130,000 monthly salary to extend his contract, which Gara-Gombe calls “unrealistic” and “blackmail”.

“Chelle’s using the Super Eagles to boost his CV, and now he’s trying to leverage that for a fat paycheck,” Gara-Gombe said. “With our talented players, we should be the ones asking him to pay us ‘privileged fees’!”

Gara-Gombe doubts Chelle’s impact on the team and warns that retaining him at that salary will be a mistake. “If he wants to leave, let him go. Nigeria will regret keeping him at this price.” He questioned Chelle’s negotiating tactics, suggesting the coach is taking advantage of Nigeria’s football ambitions.

The controversy has sparked heated debate among Nigerian football fans, with many calling for the NFF to reject Chelle’s demands. “It’s ridiculous,” said one fan. “We have talented players; we don’t need him that badly.”

Others argue that the NFF should focus on finding a coach who can deliver results, regardless of the cost. “If Chelle can get us to the World Cup, I’ll support whatever it takes,” said another fan.

The NFF has yet to comment on Chelle’s demands, but sources suggest they are considering their options. Meanwhile, rumors of other coaches interested in the Super Eagles job continue to circulate.
