Fuel Price War Heats Up: NNPCL and Dangote Refinery Spar Over Prices
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has reduced its petrol price to N815 per liter, a N20 cut from the previous price of N835 per liter. However, this price is still N76 higher than the N739 per liter offered by Dangote Refinery-backed MRS filling stations nationwide .
The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has announced plans to further cut petrol prices to around N739 per liter nationwide. IPMAN president, Abubakar Maigandi, revealed that Dangote Refinery has promised to start direct fuel sales to its members at N699 per liter in January 2026. Once this happens, IPMAN members plan to sell petrol at a maximum price of N750 per liter .
The current fuel price in Nigeria ranges from N739 to N900 per liter across filling stations, with Dangote Refinery’s price cut triggering a price war among major players. Despite the recent price reduction, the majority of Nigerians are yet to benefit from cheaper fuel prices nationwide .
Maigandi stated that Dangote Refinery will start direct supply to filling stations this month, January 2026. “Immediately he starts direct delivery, without transport, you will see all this queue will go. You know, if you get to N699 per liter by the time you add transport, N15, the product will arrive at the rate of about N750 to your filling station .
