#FreeNnamdiKanuNow Protest March Announced for October 20 in Abuja
Activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has announced a protest march to demand the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The protest is scheduled for October 20, 2025, at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.
Details of the Protest
Date: October 20, 2025
Time: 7 am
Location: Aso Rock Villa, Abuja
Objective: To demand the release of Nnamdi Kanu, who has been in detention since 2021 despite multiple court rulings ordering his release
Sowore has urged all South-East governors, lawmakers, traditional rulers, and religious leaders to join the demonstration. He emphasized that the protest will be conducted peacefully and legally, and encouraged everyone who believes in Kanu’s freedom to participate.
Nnamdi Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Services since his re-arrest in 2021. He faces charges bordering on terrorism, treasonable felony, and incitement, filed by the Federal Government before the Federal High Court in Abuja. The Federal Government’s refusal to comply with court rulings ordering his release has drawn condemnation from rights groups and political leaders .
