Former Senate President Adolphus Wabara Voices Support for Nnamdi Kanu’s Release
In a significant show of solidarity, former Senate President Adolphus Wabara has expressed his backing for the campaign to free Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Wabara’s support comes as human rights activist Omoyele Sowore prepares to lead a protest march to the Presidential Villa in Abuja on October 20, demanding Kanu’s immediate release.
In a heartfelt letter addressed to Sowore, Wabara commended the activist’s efforts to promote justice and fairness in Nigeria. Despite being out of the country on a medical trip, Wabara assured Sowore of his moral support for the peaceful protest. “I wish to commend your efforts and those of others who continue to speak up for justice and fairness in our country,” Wabara stated.
The planned protest has garnered significant attention and support from various quarters. Other notable figures who have expressed support for the movement include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe. Abaribe, in particular, has urged President Bola Tinubu to consider Kanu’s release, citing the need to restore peace and stability in the Southeast region.
Kanu has been in detention since June 2021, following his arrest and extraordinary rendition from Kenya. His continued detention has sparked widespread debate and calls for his release. Sowore’s protest aims to bring attention to Kanu’s plight and push for his unconditional release.
The growing support for Nnamdi Kanu’s release reflects a broader desire for justice and national reconciliation in Nigeria. As the protest approaches, it’s clear that the issue of Kanu’s detention has become a rallying point for those seeking to address perceived injustices and promote peace in the country .
