FG Begins Payment of N32,000 Pension Increment to Retirees

The Federal Government has commenced payment of a N32,000 pension increment to retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS). The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) announced that the increment will be reflected in the September 2025 payroll cycle, benefiting about 832,000 pensioners.

The package includes a fixed N32,000 payment alongside percentage increases of 10.66% and 12.95% for eligible categories.
The implementation is made possible by the partial release of N820.188 billion by the Federal Ministry of Finance from the initial N845 billion emergency funding approval.
The development reaffirms the Federal Government’s dedication to safeguarding the welfare and entitlements of DBS Pensioners in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Pensioners will receive enhanced payments promptly.
Pension harmonization for all DBS pensioners will ensure equal treatment.
Enrollment into the National Health Insurance Scheme will improve healthcare access.

PTAD has expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the emergency allocation and to key stakeholders, including the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, and pension groups like the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, for their cooperation .
