FCT Minister Nyesom Wike Responds to Nnamdi Kanu’s Witness List
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has clarified that he won’t appear as a witness in Nnamdi Kanu’s trial simply because his name was mentioned in the media. Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), had listed Wike as one of his witnesses in his ongoing terrorism trial.
Wike emphasized that he’ll only appear in court if formally summoned. “You don’t become a witness by reading the newspaper,” he stated. “Nobody has served me any process; nobody has subpoenaed me.” He expressed his willingness to obey a court summons, saying, “If I’m served, if I’m subpoenaed to come and give witness or evidence, I must obey the court; I must appear.”
When asked why Kanu might have listed him as a witness, Wike claimed ignorance. “If you see Nnamdi Kanu, you ask him, ‘Why did you list me? I did not go and say I want to be a witness.'”
Other prominent Nigerians listed as witnesses include:
– Former Military Officials
– Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (rtd), former Minister of Defence
– Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd), former Chief of Army Staff
– State Governors
– Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos State Governor
– Hope Uzodinma, Imo State Governor
– Other Notable Figures
– Dave Umahi, Minister of Works
– Okezie Ikpeazu, former Abia State Governor
Wike’s response highlights the importance of formal legal processes and his respect for judicial authority .
