D’Tigress Receives National Honors and Rewards for Historic Victory

The Federal Government has rewarded D’Tigress, Nigeria’s female basketball team, with the Order of the Niger (OON) national honours, $100,000, and a flat each for their historic fifth consecutive AfroBasketWomen victory. The team’s technical team, led by Coach Rena Wakama, also received $50,000 each.

The rewards were announced during a reception hosted by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The President was represented by his wife, Senator Remi Tinubu, and Vice President Kashim Shettima. The event was a celebration of the team’s remarkable achievement and a testament to their hard work and dedication.

This reward is part of a larger pattern of recognition for Nigerian sports teams. Last week, the President conferred similar national honours and gifts on the Super Falcons for winning Nigeria’s 10th title of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco.

The team’s victory in the AfroBasketWomen championship was a thrilling 78-64 win over Mali. The team’s resilience and composure were on full display as they claimed their seventh AfroBasket title.

The rewards and recognition received by D’Tigress are a testament to their hard work and dedication. The team’s historic victory is an inspiration to young athletes across Nigeria, and their rewards serve as a motivation for future generations of sports stars.
