Defence Ministry Investigates Clash Between FCT Minister and Naval Officer
The Defence Ministry has launched an investigation into a confrontation between Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and a naval officer over a disputed land in Abuja. Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru assured that the Armed Forces will protect its personnel carrying out lawful duties.
The clash occurred when Wike visited the site and alleged that the military had taken over the land illegally. The land is reportedly owned by former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Zubairu Gambo (retd.). A video obtained shows Wike questioning the presence of armed personnel on the land.
Badaru emphasized that the Armed Forces will not abandon its officers on lawful duty, stating, “We will always protect our officers on lawful duty… We will not allow anything to happen to him so long as he is doing his job, and he is doing his job very well.” The investigation aims to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident .
