Dangote Refinery Denies Importing High-Sulphur Petrol, Explains Feedstock Imports

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has strongly denied allegations of importing finished petrol with high sulphur content into Nigeria. The refinery clarified that the shipment in question was not finished petrol but an intermediate feedstock used in refining processes to produce high-quality fuels.

According to Dangote Refinery, the cargo contains 690 parts per million (ppm) of sulphur, which exceeds Nigeria’s 50 ppm limit. However, the company explained that this feedstock will undergo further refining to meet both Nigerian and international quality standards.

 

Dangote Refinery emphasized its commitment to transparency and accountability, stating that all imported feedstocks are accompanied by quality certificates shared with regulators. The company is willing to make these documents publicly available.

As a world-class refinery operating within a Free Trade Zone, Dangote produces and sells only high-quality fuels that comply with regulatory standards. Its exports to the US and Europe demonstrate adherence to global benchmarks. The refinery reaffirmed its commitment to advancing Nigeria’s energy independence and delivering cleaner fuels.
