Cross River State Governor —Bassey Otu Supports Armed Forces Remembrance Day with N20 Million Donation

The Cross River State government, led by Governor Bassey Otu, has donated N20 million to support the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day emblem appeal fund. The donation aims to strengthen security and honor the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes in the state .

Governor Otu emphasized that peace and security are essential for meaningful growth and development. He highlighted recent gains recorded by security agencies in the state, including the apprehension of a kidnap kingpin and the rescue of kidnap victims .

The governor directed all civil servants and political appointees in the state to wear the Remembrance emblem throughout the period as a mark of honor and respect for members of the armed forces. The event was marked with a ceremony, where the Commissioner for Social Welfare and Community Development, Prof. Margaret Ene-Ita, welcomed participants and described the event as a celebration of the courage and patriotism of the Nigerian Armed Forces .

The Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Cross River State Council, Comr. Daniel Ojugbo, commended the governor for his unwavering support in hosting the event and for the assistance given to the Legion. He noted that the Armed Forces Remembrance Day is marked annually on January 15 to honor and raise funds for the welfare of veterans and families of fallen heroes .

 

The event organizers have appealed to philanthropists, development partners, corporate bodies, and government organizations to support the cause. The donation made by the Cross River State government is a significant contribution to the welfare of veterans and families of fallen heroes.
