Cross River State Efik professionals push for fair oil-well allocation
Efik Professionals, a socio-cultural group, has commended Governor Bassey Otu’s efforts in the ongoing scientific verification of oil wells attributed to Cross River State. The group believes this move will help address the economic challenges faced by the Efik community for decades.

Cross River State has faced significant fiscal challenges due to oil well allocations not grounded in comprehensive hydrographic and reservoir-based scientific verification. This has impacted infrastructure development, employment, and industrial growth in the state.
The Inter-Agency Technical Committee, established by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is conducting an independent verification process to determine the precise location of oil and gas assets within Nigeria’s onshore and offshore boundaries. The committee has verified over 1,000 new crude oil and gas coordinates, and its findings are expected to promote transparency and cooperative federalism.
The verification exercise is expected to restore Cross River State’s oil-producing status, with projections indicating the state could regain over 100 producing oil wells. This development is seen as a restoration of economic justice, constitutional equity, and historical truth.
How do you think this development will impact the economic prospects of Cross River State? Will it lead to increased investment and job creation in the region?
