Coup Plot Against Tinubu: 40 Suspects Identified

The Nigerian security agencies have concluded their investigation into an alleged plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration. A total of 40 suspects have been identified in connection with the conspiracy .

 

The suspects include:

– Senior military officers across the armed forces
– A police officer
– Civilians allegedly involved in reconnaissance, funding, and propaganda operations

According to reports, 13 people were apprehended by the State Security Service (SSS), including two military personnel (one retired), one policeman, and 10 civilians. Sixteen military officers were arrested for direct participation, two civilians for reconnaissance, two for inciting civil disobedience, and five others for funding channels .

The suspects were arrested following a covert intelligence operation coordinated by the Army Headquarters and the SSS. One detained soldier escaped custody but was later rearrested by SSS operatives in Bauchi .

The alleged plot was reportedly aimed at violently overthrowing the democratically elected government of President Tinubu. The investigation revealed that the conspirators planned to seize control of strategic locations, including the Presidential Villa, Niger Barracks, Armed Forces Complex, and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport .

Some of the key figures identified in the plot include:

– Brigadier General Musa Abubakar Sadiq
– Colonel M. A Ma’aji
– Lieutenant Colonel S Bappah
– Retired Major General Adamu, who is said to be on the run
– Former Governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva, who allegedly transferred nearly N1 billion to fund the plot .

The investigation has been concluded, and the report has been submitted to the appropriate authorities. The suspects are expected to face trial, with at least 25 military personnel likely to face court-martial proceedings .
