Compassion in Action: Remi Tinubu Donates ₦110 Million to Families of Deceased Kano Athletes

In a heartwarming display of compassion and leadership, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated ₦110 million to the families of 22 Kano athletes who tragically lost their lives in a road accident earlier this year. Each family received ₦5 million through the Victim Support Fund, aimed at easing the burden of loss and supporting their recovery

The Kano State Government, led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, also provided an additional ₦130 million in support of the affected families. This contribution included ²:
₦2 million and a plot of land for each of the 10 injured athletes
Additional ₦5 million for each of the families of the deceased

Other organizations and individuals who have made significant contributions to support the families include .
Ogun State Government: ₦32 million
Jigawa State Government: ₦20 million
Engr. Sagir Koki: ₦2.2 million

The total financial support extended to the victims and their families has reached ₦321.2 million, alongside 30 bags of rice and housing plots. Governor Yusuf expressed deep appreciation to the First Lady, describing her intervention as “a clear demonstration of compassion, leadership, and shared humanity”. In a gesture of solidarity, the Kano State Government has also renamed the Kano Sports Institute in Karfi to “Kano 22 Athletes Institute” in honor of the deceased athletes .
