Catholic School Attack: 88 More Students Declared Missing
The Catholic Diocese of Kontagora has announced that 88 more students are missing after the attack on St. Mary Secondary School in Papiri, Niger State, Nigeria. The total number of missing students now stands at 303, with four female and eight male teachers still in captivity
The school’s management has denied receiving any security warning from the state government prior to the attack. The Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, Most. Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, stated that neither the government nor security agencies informed them of any potential threat
The Niger State government had claimed that the school was ordered to close due to prior intelligence of a security risk, but the school’s management disputes this claim. The government is facing criticism for its handling of the situation, and the incident has raised concerns about the safety of schools in the region
The incident is currently under investigation, and efforts are being made to secure the safe release of the missing students and teachers. The Catholic Diocese has urged the government to take responsibility for the safety of citizens and to work towards resolving the security challenges facing the country
