British Airways Refuses to Board 58 Passengers Due to an Issue with the Door

British Airways, unfortunately, had to deny boarding to 58 passengers that were to travel to London due to having an aircraft door malfunction. This incident took place in the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) confirmed that the airline had to leave certain seats empty for safety purposes, which resulted in the passengers not being able to board the flight.

According to the NCAA’s Director of Public Relations and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, the passengers were provided with an overnight accommodation. 28 of the passengers chose to go back home while 30 accepted the hotel accommodation that was offered. Achimugu went on to stress that passengers are able to submit complaints for compensation and it is possible to airlift them the next morning .

In situations like this, Achimugu advised to locate the NCAA Consumer Protection Officers at the terminal so that care can be provided which is their right. This highlights the need for the airline industry to focus on passenger safety and customer service .

The issue has triggered internet outrage, with a section of users asking about the state of aircraft operated by foreign airlines in Nigeria.
