ASUU Vows to Sustain Demand for University Autonomy and Better Working Conditions

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has reaffirmed its commitment to demanding university autonomy, academic freedom, and better working conditions for its members. The current National President of ASUU, Prof. Christopher Piwuna, made this declaration during a reception organized for the immediate past President of ASUU, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke.

Prof. Piwuna emphasized that ASUU will continue to push for university autonomy, academic freedom, and a conducive environment for its members. He noted that strike action is a universal tool that may be employed if the government fails to honor its agreements with ASUU.

The ASUU President highlighted that the struggle for better working conditions and university autonomy is a collective one that concerns lecturers, students, and parents. He expressed hope that the union would not have to embark on strike action to get what it wants.

The ASUU’s commitment to demanding university autonomy and better working conditions is a crucial step towards improving the higher education sector in Nigeria. By sustaining its demands and being prepared to take necessary actions, ASUU is working towards creating a more conducive environment for its members and promoting the overall development of the education system.
