Amaechi: It’s Time for the South to Lead Nigeria
Former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi has emphasized that the South should produce Nigeria’s next president, citing the need for balanced leadership and merit-based governance. In a recent interview on Channels Television, Amaechi stressed that leadership should be determined by capacity, competence, and character, rather than regional entitlement or dominance.
Amaechi argued that Nigeria’s democracy cannot be sustained with one region dominating while others are locked out. He believes the South has capable leaders and it’s time to restore balance and deliver real results. “Nigeria belongs to all of us. We cannot sustain a democracy where one region dominates while others are locked out,” he said.
Amaechi described the 2027 general elections as a defining moment for Nigeria, framing it as a battle between “ordinary Nigerians and the entrenched political elite.” He urged citizens to unite behind a new national movement prioritizing equity, accountability, and real change.
The former governor emphasized that the South is ready to lead, and a platform is being built to give every Nigerian a voice and hope. “This election is no longer about party loyalty. It’s Nigerians versus the political elite. If you want change, real change, then it’s time to rise,” Amaechi declared.
Amaechi’s statement highlights the need for a more inclusive and merit-based leadership in Nigeria. As the country approaches the 2027 elections, the question of who will lead the nation remains a topic of intense debate and speculation.
