Aliko Dangote Summoned by ICPC Over Petition Against Ex-NMDPRA Boss
Billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote has been summoned by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to appear before a panel of investigators in Abuja. The ICPC took this action following a petition filed by Dangote against Farouk Ahmed, the former Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) .
Dangote accused Ahmed of corruption and misappropriation of funds, specifically alleging that Ahmed spent millions of dollars on his four children’s education in expensive schools in Switzerland. He also claimed that Ahmed undermined domestic refining by colluding with international traders and oil importers through the continued issuance of import licenses .
The ICPC has set up a panel of investigators to handle the probe and has asked Dangote to submit his evidence to the anti-graft agency. Despite Ahmed’s resignation from his position, the ICPC has stated that the investigation will proceed, as his resignation does not affect the probe .
Dangote is expected to appear or send his lawyer, Ogwu Onoja, SAN, with his evidence when the ICPC’s investigation formally commences. The ICPC has emphasized that it will be fair to all parties involved in the investigation .
