In a recent interview on Arise Television, Governor Eno explained that his concept of “Happy Hour” was not about sponsoring drinking sessions for civil servants, but rather about finding time to relax and recharge .
Governor Eno emphasized that “Happy Hour” is about taking a break and refreshing one’s mind, not necessarily about consuming alcohol. He cited his own experience of working non-stop from Sunday to Friday and needing some time to unwind. According to him, “Happy Hour” can take many forms, including celebrating achievements, spending time with loved ones, or simply relaxing.
The Governor expressed shock at reports that his administration allegedly spent N18 billion on “Happy Hour” activities, stating that no such subhead exists in the state’s budget. He dismissed claims that the state was funding drinking sessions, emphasizing that celebration and relaxation can take many forms, including in church or other settings.
When asked about being referred to as the “happy governor,” Eno smiled, saying, “I am happy. And we all seem to be a happy state. We are happy people.” His clarification aims to put an end to the controversy surrounding his “Happy Hour” campaign pledge, which sparked widespread debate during the 2023 governorship election.
