ADC Slams FG Over ₦1.15tn Domestic Loan

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration over its recent ₦1.15tn domestic borrowing approval, describing it as “reckless debt accumulation wrapped in propaganda.” The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, stated that the borrowing contradicts the President’s claims that Nigeria has met and surpassed its non-oil revenue targets.

Abdullahi noted that the government’s decision to borrow despite reported revenue generation of ₦20.1 trillion in the first eight months of 2025 is a clear indication of fiscal mismanagement. The party warned that if all of Tinubu’s loan requests for 2025 are approved, Nigeria’s total public debt could rise to a staggering ₦193 trillion.

The ADC criticized the government’s economic policy, stating that it suffers from “economic policy schizophrenia.” The party argued that a government that claims to have achieved record-breaking revenue should not be borrowing. The party urged the government to adopt a more prudent fiscal policy and avoid burdening future generations with debt.

The ADC’s statement serves as a call to action for the government to reassess its borrowing habits and prioritize fiscal responsibility. As the nation’s economic challenges continue to mount, it is imperative for the government to adopt sustainable economic policies that benefit the citizens and promote economic growth.
