FG Starts Paying 2025 Scholarship Allowances to Nigerian Students Abroad
Good news for Nigerian students on foreign scholarships: The Federal Government has started paying outstanding 2025 allowances under the Bilateral Education Agreement, BEA Scholarship Programme.
The Federal Ministry of Education confirmed on Wednesday that the Central Bank of Nigeria has released funds to Nigerian embassies and missions abroad for immediate disbursement to eligible scholars.
According to Dr. Tunji Alausa, Minister of Education, the payment covers 50% of the approved outstanding obligations for 2025. He added that work is ongoing to clear the remaining balance.
“The approved funds have been remitted to embassy accounts,” Alausa said through ministry spokesperson Boriowo Folasade. “Missions have been directed to start paying beneficiaries immediately.”
Students should check their accounts as payments begin to reflect.
The BEA Scholarship Programme supports Nigerians studying in partner countries with federal funding. Although the programme has been discontinued for new intakes, many current beneficiaries have faced months of delays in receiving stipends.
Those delays created serious financial strain for students abroad dealing with tuition, rent, and living costs. This disbursement should bring relief.
The ministry said the move shows President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to student welfare under the Renewed Hope Agenda, and reaffirmed its promise to meet all obligations to Nigerian scholars.
