The Ongoing Persecution of Christians in Nigeria: A Growing Concern

A recent report by the International Society for Civil Rights and Rule of Law (Intersociety) has shed light on the alarming rate of violence against Christians in Nigeria. According to the report, between January 1 and April 6, 2026, at least 1,402 Christians were killed and 1,800 abducted in various parts of the country.

The violence, attributed to Islamist extremist groups such as Boko Haram and Fulani militants, has led to widespread displacement, with thousands of Christians seeking refuge in IDP centers. The report highlights the complicity of state actors, citing instances of security chiefs openly protecting jihadists and government-affiliated Islamic groups vowing to continue their violent Islamism until Nigeria becomes a Sharia state.
