The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has launched its 2026 National Essay Competition, offering a total prize pool of ₦3 million to be shared among nine winners across three categories. This is a unique opportunity for students, undergraduates, and NYSC Emergency Management Volunteers to showcase their writing skills and contribute to disaster risk reduction and climate resilience.

 Categories and Topics

Secondary School Students:”My Role in Disaster Risk Reduction” (500 words)
Tertiary Undergraduates:”Climate Change and Disaster Management in Nigeria” (1,000 words)
NYSC Emergency Management Volunteers: “Technology for Disaster Response: Opportunities and Challenges” (1,000 words)

Prizes

1st place: ₦500,000
1st runner-up: ₦300,000
2nd runner-up: ₦200,000

How to Enter

Submit original essays via email to nemaessay@nema.gov.ng by April 15, 2026
Include full name, category, and school/NYSC deployment details
Essays should be in Word document format, Times New Roman, size 12
