Nigerians to See Improved Electricity Supply in 2 Weeks, Says Minister’s Aide

Nigerians can expect a gradual improvement in electricity supply within the next two weeks, according to Adebayo Olowoniyi, Chief Technical Adviser to the Minister of Power

The improvement is expected to follow the completion of maintenance work on a major gas pipeline, which has been disrupted, affecting power generation. About 75% of Nigeria’s electricity generation is gas-dependent.

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, recently apologized for the persistent power outages, acknowledging the hardship caused to homes, businesses, schools, and industries. Olowoniyi defended the apology, saying it reflects strong leadership and a commitment to finding solutions .The government aims to increase electricity generation to 6,000 megawatts by the end of 2026 and has set up a committee to monitor gas suppliers’ compliance with domestic supply obligations.
