Lawal stated that some states have received over N500 billion in palliative support, while Zamfara has received nothing, attributing this to his membership in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Federal Government had introduced palliative measures, including cash transfers and food items, to cushion the effects of economic hardships following the 2023 removal of fuel subsidies. Lawal’s administration has been relying on state resources to support residents, implementing programs such as food distribution and welfare initiatives.

Lawal’s allegations have sparked debate about political bias in federal resource allocation, with some opposition governors echoing similar concerns. The APC has not publicly responded to the allegations, maintaining that federal support is guided by national interest and economic necessity.
