Nigeria and Angola Sign Visa Exemption Agreement for Diplomatic Passport Holders

Nigeria and Angola have signed a visa exemption agreement for holders of diplomatic and official/service passports, strengthening bilateral relations and easing official travel between the two countries.

The agreement was signed on February 15, 2026, on the sidelines of the 39th Ordinary Session of the Heads of State and Government of the African Union in Addis Ababa. Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and Angolan Minister of International Relations, Tete Antonio, led their respective delegations.

The visa exemption agreement aims to facilitate smoother official exchanges, deepen institutional cooperation, and create broader opportunities for joint initiatives, dialogue, and partnership. Tuggar described the agreement as a “long-awaited milestone” that will strengthen cooperation between Nigeria and Angola.

The agreement is rooted in the historical ties between Nigeria and Angola, dating back to Nigeria’s support for Angola’s liberation struggle. Tuggar referenced former Head of State Gen Murtala Muhammed’s landmark speech, “Africa Has Come of Age,” as a testament to Nigeria’s solidarity with Angola.
