Petrol Station Workers Urge IPMAN to Provide Health Insurance
The Concerned Petrol Station Workers has called on the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) to extend health insurance coverage to petrol station workers. This demand follows the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s (NNPCL) recent launch of a health insurance scheme for its workers in retail outlets across the country .
Ibrahim Zango, Convener of the Concerned Petrol Station Workers, emphasized that petrol station workers face serious health and safety risks daily, including inhalation of toxic fumes, fire hazards, and long working hours. He stressed that access to healthcare protection is essential for these workers, regardless of whether they are employed by NNPCL outlets or independent marketers.
Zango urged IPMAN to emulate NNPCL’s initiative, ensuring the welfare and well-being of workers employed by independent marketers. He emphasized that health insurance is not a luxury but a fundamental right of every worker, especially in an industry with high occupational risks .
Providing health insurance to petrol station workers would have numerous benefits, including:
– Improved productivity and morale
– Enhanced service delivery
– Reduced absenteeism and turnover rates
– Better overall well-being of workers.
