US Consulate Hosts Pre-Departure Orientation for Nigerian Students Bound for the United States

The US Consulate General in Lagos has announced a pre-departure orientation session for Nigerian students holding valid US student visas. The event aims to prepare students for life and studies in the United States, providing them with essential information to navigate their academic journey .

During the orientation, EducationUSA alumni studying at various US institutions will share valuable insights on topics such as:

Cultural adaptation: How to deal with culture shock and adjust to the American way of life.
Academic success: Tips on relating to professors, managing coursework, and achieving academic excellence.
Campus life: Information on getting an on-campus job, becoming a resident adviser, and making new friends.
Career opportunities: Guidance on applying for internships, CPT/OPT, and scholarships.
Mental health and wellness: Strategies for managing stress, anxiety, and maintaining mental well-being .

The pre-departure orientation is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in the United States. By providing students with a comprehensive understanding of what to expect, the US Consulate aims to ensure a smooth transition to life in America .

The orientation will take place on December 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the US Consulate General in Lagos. Students holding valid US student visas are eligible to attend and can register via an online form available on the US Mission X page
