Empowering Nigerian Students: Dangote Foundation and NELFUND Partner for Education
The Dangote Foundation has launched a N100 billion annual scholarship scheme to support financially vulnerable Nigerian students, with the goal of boosting human capital development and keeping students in school. The 10-year program, which will commence in 2026, is expected to benefit about 1.3 million students across the 774 local government areas .
The National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has expressed its readiness to collaborate with the Dangote Foundation and government partners to ensure the success of the scholarship scheme. NELFUND’s Managing Director, Mr. Sawyerr, noted that the foundation’s decade-long commitment to education financing would greatly enhance national efforts to widen access to education.
The scholarship scheme includes:
STEM-focused scholarship track: Providing tuition support for 30,000 undergraduate students each year in public universities and polytechnics.
Targeting public secondary schools and tertiary institutions: Focusing on students in public schools and institutions to promote inclusivity and equity.
Expanding access to higher education: Aiming to increase access to higher education and foster innovation among Nigerian students .
