Senate Commends Tinubu, Security Agencies for Rescuing Kidnapped Victims
The Nigerian Senate has commended President Bola Tinubu and security agencies for the successful rescue of dozens of kidnapped victims in Kwara and Niger states. The commendation came after the adoption of a motion sponsored by Senator Asiru Yisa, titled “Urgent Need to Address Escalating Insecurity in Kwara, Kebbi, and Niger States – Call for Immediate and Comprehensive Federal Intervention”
The motion highlighted the alarming levels of insecurity in the country, particularly in schools and places of worship. Senator Yisa expressed concern over the attack on Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, where two worshippers were killed and 38 people were abducted. The senator also raised questions about the withdrawal of military personnel from a school in Kebbi hours before a bandit attack and called for an urgent and transparent investigation
The Senate has called for a thorough investigation into the incidents and for the government to take comprehensive measures to address the security challenges. The lawmakers also highlighted the need to address the issue of internal collaborators aiding bandits with logistics and escape routes. They condemned the deplorable condition of the Idofian-Omu-Aran-Eruku-Egbe-Kabba highway, which has become an easy escape route for criminals
The Senate’s commendation of the President and security agencies is a welcome development. However, the escalating insecurity in the country requires urgent attention. The government must take comprehensive measures to address the security challenges and ensure that those responsible for the attacks are brought to justice.
