FCT Ground Rent Defaulters Warned of Property Forfeiture

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to ground rent defaulters in the territory that their properties risk forfeiture if they fail to meet the payment deadline. According to Wike, there will be no further extension on the payment deadline, which has already been extended several times

Wike warned that officials of the FCTA will seal up the premises of defaulters, and the properties will revert back to the FCT Administration. “If you have not paid, we will seal up the premises and the property becomes the property of the FCT Administration,” he said. The minister expressed frustration that many Nigerians who complain about the system do not want to abide by the rules

Wike also provided updates on ongoing infrastructure projects in the FCT, including the Transit Way N2 connecting the Central Business District to Wuse District and the Arterial Road N5 from Life Camp Junction to Karmo. He expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of work and noted the contractors’ assurances of timely completion

The minister disclosed that the procurement process for the Abuja bus terminals would be completed before the end of the year. The administration is assessing those who have applied to run the terminals and evaluating the number of buses in their fleet

The FCT Minister’s warning to ground rent defaulters is a clear indication that the administration is serious about enforcing payment. Property owners in the FCT are advised to settle their outstanding ground rents to avoid forfeiture of their properties.
